Are 327 and 350 blocks the same?
The difference in the displacement comes from the crankshaft stroke.
The 327 uses a 3.25 inch stroke, where the 350 uses a longer 3.48 inch stroke(thats what makes it bigger).
Depending on the year of the block, the biggest difference in the block itself is the main journal size..

Did Chevrolet ever make a 327 4 bolt main?
No – GM never made a 4-bolt 327 for production use; many have been drilled and tapped for six extra splayed bolts with aftermarket main caps on the #2-3-4 journals by machine shops, but GM never made one.
Can you stroke a 327?
You cannot just slip a 350 crank in place of the 327 crank without also replacing the pistons as the wrist pin height is different to make up for the 1/4″ difference in stroke. The 5.7″ rod length can stay the same. if the main journals are same YOUR 327, both 305 & 350 have same 3.48″ stroke.
Why is 4 bolt main better?
Any time you increase horsepower, torque and cylinder pressure, you increase crankshaft load. It would take quite a bit more stress to rip-out 4 bolts than it would just 2, so that’s why the 4 bolt mains are stronger than the 2 bolt mains. This is the theory behind it anyway.
Is a 396 a good engine?
The 396 is a good revving engine, so you’d want to run a steel crank so it would live at the rpm you’d have to run it to make HP. And probably a roller cam, as flat tappet cams in big blocks have a nasty habit of “going away” relatively easily.
How much horsepower can you get out of a 327?
Despite being down on inches to the 350, the 327 Chevy still lays claim to the most powerful production conventional small-block ever produced, the L84. Rated at 375 hp, the fuel-injected 327 was a high-winding screamer, as satisfying to drive as any big-block.

What is the biggest small block Chevy?

How do I know if my 350 is a 4 bolt main?
Use the suffix code on the block and determine if the engine is original or not. That code can’t always tell you its a 4 bolt but if its the origianl motor in a 4 wheel drive 3/4 ton its almost a guarantee its a 4 bolt block.
Will 327 heads fit on a 350?
They are perfect for a 350. Both the 327 and the 350 have a 4″ bore so they like the same heads. Old heads like that will have softer valve seats, so if you want them to last a long time, you should either replace the seats or run leaded gas in the engine.
Are stroker engines reliable?

What is a Chevy Vortec engine?

What is the difference between a 283 and 327?
There is a “wing” looking thingy above the front cover that sticks out of the block. On a 283 you can’t lay your finger in the indentation, on a 327 you can. Hard to explain but easy to see if you know the difference. Easy tell back in the day.
